Condition: Fine poster. A beautiful scarce poster portrait of Georgia O'Keeffe close to her 90th birthday in October, 1977, as captured by long-time photographer of O'Keeffe and her paintings, Malcolm Varon. Signed by Varon on the bottom right of the poster. This special poster also includes the First Day of Issue of O'Keeffe's first commemorative stamp issued by the U.S. Post Office on May 23, 1996, 10 years after her death. She was similarly honored with another commemorative stamp in 2013 featuring a different painting. Finely framed in a quality metal aluminum frame with UV (conservation) plexiglass to preserve the poster. Overall the framed poster measures 28" wide by 20" wide. In the fall of 1977, Georgia O'Keeffe gave New York photographer Malcom Varon permission to take photographs of her and her life at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico. He had been at Ghost Ranch for several weeks photographing her paintings for an upcoming exhibition, which he had done on previous occasions, and he came to know Georgia O'Keeffe and her companion Juan Hamilton quite well during that time. Varon's striking photograph gives a wonderful insider's view of this famous artist as she neared her 90th birthday a month later. In our opinion, one of the best American painters to ever share her wonderful art, Georgia O'Keeffe (November 15, 1887 - March 6, 1986) was an American artist best known for her paintings of enlarged flowers, New York skyscrapers, and New Mexico landscapes. The large orange poppy was one of the several iconic images of her work. One of those fortunate (?) artists whose work was appreciated during her lifetime, Georgia O'Keeffe was elected to the American Academy of Art and Letters (1962), chosen as a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (1966), received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977, and in 1985 was awarded the National Medal of Arts.
