Magazine / Periodical First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. The designer makes stunning use of Hokusai's Mount Fuji print for the cover of Granta 4. This is a beautifully preserved first edition of the fourth issue of the reborn Granta, champion of new writing, which grew to be one of the best known, most widely read, richest in talented contributors and longest enduring of a notoriously ephemeral species, the literary magazine. Includes contributions from Guy Davenport (Fifty-Seven Views of Fujiyama), Martin Amis, Brigid Brophy, Blake Morrison, Raymond Carver and Mario Vargas Llosa. The celebrated cover retains its original gloss and stiffness; the colours haven't faded and there are no tears, chips, scratches or bumps. A few indentations are visible on the front panel when the light falls on it from certain angles. The text block is perfectly square and tightly bound (remarkably so for a soft-covered book of this thickness (300 pages !), weight and age - over forty years !). All edges of the text block are spotless. Internally the pages are clean and unmarked apart from a previous resale price written in pencil on the first inside page. See five photos of this magazine and do ask for more if that would help.
