This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2019 in the subject Art - Installation / Action/Performance Art / Modern Art, grade: 1,0, University of Dusseldorf 'Heinrich Heine' (Anglistik II), language: English, abstract: The paper focuses on the audience's participation in Abramovic's The Artist is Present. It will be analysed in terms of its constitution; further as to what extent the audience unknowingly plays in active role in simply being present. The central part of this paper is set on the relationship between artist and viewer. It will deal with how co-subjectivity, embodiment and presence, as well as the audience's suggestibility work together to create a unique form of community during the performance. An analytical basis for this closer examination will be provided through the 2012 published documentary by the same title Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present.First, this paper will shortly discuss performativity, embodiment and presence, and will give definitions based on, primarily, Erika-Fischer Lichte's Ästhetik des Performativen, in order to establish a general understanding of key factors regarding performance art. Secondly, the most important aspects of Abramovic's performance will be presented. The relationship between artist and audience will be analysed and discussed according to the concerns given above. As a result, the unique character of the established community between artist and audience in this specific performance piece will be made clear. Ultimately, it will become apparent as to how the relationship between artist and audience is established through embodiment and presence. 24 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2019 im Fachbereich Anglistik - Literatur, Note: 1,3, Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf (Anglistik IV), Veranstaltung: The Romantic Imagination, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: This paper aims to show that the Christian symbolism in the poem works as a reflection of Coleridge's attempt at reconciling his religious faith with his secondary philosophical beliefs and will analyse form and imagery in regard to if he succeeds at doing so through theological symbolism. An initial point of concern will be Coleridge's relationship to religion and a general overview on his thoughts concerning religion and reason will be provided to get a further understanding of his viewpoint. J. Robert Barth's study of Coleridge and Christian Doctrine will provide an analytical basis for this matter. In light of Coleridge's history with religion and philosophy, 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' is going to be examined in regard to its theological symbolism. As Coleridge revised the poem quite a few times in language and imagery, I decided to base my analysis solely on the 1718 version of the poem as this gives view to a more refined and thus adapted choice of words, which might find themselves more in coherence with Coleridge's thinking. Moreover, does this choice also simplify the matter at hand regarding the limited scope of this work. However, the incident of the poem's revisions themselves will find its place in the conclusion of this paper. Focusing on the symbols used in the poem, only a selection of lines and motifs will be analysed, including imagery revolving around the sea voyage (water, ship), the Albatross and Watersnakes, as well as a brief look on the image of the wedding, which is chosen as frame narrative for this ballad. These have been partly chosen in prospect to their significance on attempting to create a sense of unity. 24 pp. Deutsch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2021 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 2,7, University of Dusseldorf 'Heinrich Heine' (Anglistik II), course: Virus as Political Metaphor, language: English, abstract: How challenging the fulfillment of one¿s own role in society and the co-occurring responsibilities, as well as weighting up mental well-being against physical health, during an imminent crisis can become, is something the protagonist of Stewart O¿Nan¿s novel 'A Prayer for the Dying' becomes painfully aware of. Set a few years after the Civil War, Jacob Hansen has just returned from the war and now holds the office of Sheriff, Pastor and Undertaker in the small Wisconsin town Friendship ¿ he is a dutiful man who takes his roles very seriously. When a deadly epidemic, Diphtheria, starts to spread around the townspeople, Jacob struggles between keeping the town safe and maintaining his sanity, troubled by post-traumatic stress disorder. However, the townspeople are not very compliant and a threatening natural catastrophe further strains Jacob¿s moral disposition as he has to decide between leaving the sick to die and saving those not struck by disease. This paper aims to elaborate on how in general diseases may be instrumentalized to fit a certain persons or groups psychological needs, and how especially the question of responsibility, as well as the virological imperative, steers a community¿s behavior in the face of an epidemic/pandemic. Further, it will discuss the ethical and inner conflicts concerning the measures taken to overcome the threat of a deadly disease. In concern to this, the self as 'evil object' will be explained and, inter alia, measures such as isolative quarantine will be discussed exemplarily. Stewart O¿Nan¿s A Prayer for the Dying, as well as recent literature regarding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic will function as analytical basis for this paper. Lastly, I will try to formulate an assessment of the situation¿s outcome in O¿Nan¿s novel and will provide a short outlook on a possible positive impact the Coronavirus pandemic may have on our society. 24 pp. Englisch.
