Hardback. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. Revised Edition. THE LONG TRAIL What the British Soldier Sang and Said in 1914 - 1918. John Brophy & Eric Partridge. Andre Deutsch, London 1965 Revised and Rewritten Edition. 240pp Illustrated Hardback. This copy is in fine unmarked condition in an unclipped dust wrapper that is a trifle sunned to the spine, forgivable in a book published almost fifty years ago. This jewel of a book was first published by Eric Partridge's Scholartis Press in 1930. It went into three editions, the last of them in 1931. It has now been completely revised and rearranged. It includes a collection of songs ribald, sentimental, satiric, made up by unknown soldiers and a fascinating glossary of soldier's slang. Both the authors were 1914 volunteer infantrymen and started to compile this book when they were at the front during the First World War. Ref EE 2.
