Michelle's love for singing nursery rhymes and enjoying her childhood days with her friends was suddenly cut short when a stranger moved into their home. At age ten, she was robbed of her innocence, and became a victim of sexual abuse by someone she loved, trusted, respected and looked up to. Her life was filled with fear, rejection and pain, but would Michelle find the strength to go on? Would she be able to find support and safety from loved ones and friends? Helpless Cries speaks of the journey of a broken child, fighting the adversities of life with the aim of survival. Michelle Sabrena Alexander, is an advocate against child sexual abuse. She has partnered with a number of nonprofit organisations, such as Heal With Hope Foundation and GCSCORED Caribbean (Global Centre for School Counseling Outcome Research Evaluation and Development), fighting against child sexual abuse and in providing support and encouragement to victims, in an effort to bring about healing and restoration. Being a survivor of child sexual abuse, Michelle is committed in removing the cloak of silence and the stigma attached to this dreaded plague, and in being a beacon of hope and an inspiration to people everywhere. Her call is to parents, teachers, caregivers, policy makers and citizens on a whole, to play a greater role in protecting the lives and interests of our children, and in creating happy and safe environments for their growth and development. Michelle is employed as a project liaison officer with the Ministry of Social Development and Housing in Grenada.
