In Mari Jungstedt’s spine-tingling novel, The Dead of Summer, the most isolated island in the Baltic Sea, Gotska Sandön, north of Gotland, serves as the setting for her perfect crime story. A husband and father of two is mysteriously murdered while on holiday, taking a morning jog. With no evidence of a motive or suspect, assistant commissioner Karin Jacobsson is assigned to her first major case to lead the investigation while her boss, Superintendent Anders Knutas is away on holiday. Meanwhile, TV reporter Johan Berg keeps pace with the police team, while at the same time distracted in trying to win back his former love and the mother of his child, Emma Winarve, who resides on the island. One of ten in her popular Anders Knutas series, Jungstedt weaves a crime story that raises the eerie question...are we ever truly alone? Or, is there always someone watching and waiting?

About the Author:
Mari Jungstedt is one of Sweden’s most popular crime fiction authors. More than 3 million copies of her books have sold worldwide. She crafts suspenseful and dramatic stories, often brutally violent while set against the serene and picturesque landscape of Gotland Island, Sweden. Jungstedt has previously worked as a reporter on Swedish national public radio and television. She also had a brief career as a fashion model in NYC. But throughout her years, she harbored the secret dream of becoming an author. Once she dedicated the time to this endeavor, Mari says it was as if she opened a box of stories that had to be written. Her novels featuring beloved characters Superintendent Anders Knutas and the journalist Johan Berg are set on the island of Gotland, where Jungstedt resides during the summer months. Six titles have been the basis for Swedish movies. Mari Jungstedt lives in Stockholm, Sweden, with her husband.
Review:
"The Killer's Art is a classic demonstration of just why Mari Jungstedt is held in such high esteem; in Tiina Nunally's adroit translation, the prose has a stripped-down, utterly functional quality that is perfectly at the service of the carefully orchestrated plot. Writers such as Henning Mankell may outsell Jungstedt in the UK, but - if there is any justice - she will not remain caviar to the general" Barry Forshaw
