From the Publisher:
When Robi Dobi, an Indian Elephant, rescues a strange orange creature from a fast-flowing river, he finds himself at the beginning of a most extraordinary adventure. The creature, who is in fact a little mouse, has been sprayed bright orange by the cunning snake witch, Slimey Kimey, so that she can spot her victim easily. Robi Dobi knows just how to help his new friend regain his rightful color, and together they embark on an eventful journey in search of the Great Painter in the Sky. Madhur Jaffrey has skillfully embellished great Indian folklore with modern touches for contemporary readers, while Amanda Hallıs jewel-bright illustrations are a sheer visual delight. Madhur Jaffrey is renowned for both her childrenıs books and her cookbooks; born in India, she now lives in New York.
From Booklist:
Gr. 3-6, younger for reading aloud. Robi Dobi is the sort of elephant that we could all use now and again: whenever he comes across strangers in need, he helps them as if they were friends. First, he rescues Kabbi, a little mouse painted orange by an evil snake-witch, from a downpour. Robi then offers aid to Maya Wishkaya, a dancing butterfly who has broken her wing and been abandoned by her butterfly precision drill corps. A parrot princess abducted by panthers rounds out the cast of vulnerable animals. By helping them to help themselves, Robi saves them all. The adventures, clever and often quite funny, and the irrepressible orange mouse will appeal to young readers, as will the fast-paced storytelling. Amanda Hall's illustrations, both black-and-white and color, add humor and life to this fun romp through the jungle. John Green
