The history of manned flight spans just under a century, but it includes some of the most glorious adventures in human experience. This title offers a selection of airborne adventures from authors such as Charles Lindbergh, Roald Dahl and Martin Amis. Like previous "Adrenaline" titles, "Wild Blue" draws upon first-hand accounts of life-and-death adventure - all by writers known for the grace and power of their prose. Many of these are pilots themselves, veterans of combat, crashes, space walks and other airborne epics. These pilots have been amongst the boldest explorers of the last century - and their stories prove it.

About the Author:
David Fisher has written more than 40 books, including the number-one bestseller Gracie: A Love Story and The Umpire Strikes Back. William Garvey, a contributing editor of Flying magazine, writes regularly for Smithsonian Air and Space and other aviation publications. Clint Willis is series editor of the Adrenaline books.
From Library Journal:
This collection of 16 excerpts from writings about manned flight includes well-known works by Saint-Exup?ry, Michael Collins, Martin Amis, Tom Wolfe, and Charles Lindbergh as well as lesser-known pieces such as a first-person account by a 14-year old pilot who flew across the United States in a Piper Cub. Most have to do with surviving a dramatic test or ordeal of some kind. Roald Dahl flew against German bombers in the battle of Malta; William Rankin ejected from his jet and fell through a thunderstorm. Others, like William Lishman on hang gliding with birds, lean more toward the mystical or spiritual side of flying. Many libraries will already have some of the books from which these pieces were excerpted, but this collection does bring together shorter and less-taxing introductions to the authors. Recommended for public libraries where demand exists.
