Edith Holland, born Edith Stevenson, March 17, 1922. Her father was the eighth son of a Scottish immigrant who settled in Canada in 1840 and moved to Muskoka in 1860. Her mother was a British extraction, chiefly Irish. Edith was the fourth youngest of fifteen births including three sets of twins. She attended high school in Etobicoke from 1937 to 1941. Her English teacher encouraged her love of poetry. From high school she worked at John Inglis gun factory. She married a fine arts painter, Robert Henderson, in 1944 and had six children. After a lengthy separation from the artist she married a plumber in 1979, hence her name, Edith Stevenson Henderson Holland.
