From Booklist Emily loves science, but one idea sparks another in her mind, leading her away from what s happening in her fourth-grade science class. Frustrated that Emily is daydreaming during the lesson, her teacher gives her a notebook to jot down her off-topic ideas. While the point was to discover what distracts Emily, the teacher is surprised to find some creative, science-based thinking in the journal. The next day, she hands out journals to everyone in class and encourages them to follow Emily s example. Narrated by Emily, the story rolls along well until the end, when the portrayal of the teacher becomes less realistic. The story may disappoint parents looking for solutions to the problems created by daydreaming in class, but it does affirm the creativity and individual learning styles of gifted children, a notion basic to the Adventures of Everyday Geniuses series. Colorful and cartoon like, the digital illustrations include some clever details. Like its predecessors in the series, this large-format picture book will find its audience.
