Love isn’t always followed by marriage! What do you have in common with Oprah Winfrey, Stedman Graham, Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell, Elton John and David Furnish? They, like you, are part of an unmarried couple and either legally can’t or have chosen not to get married. But that does not mean that you can’t share financial and other obligations with your partner. Money Without Matrimony answers the questions unmarried couples have when developing plans to secure their financial futures including:
· Pros and cons of merging your finances
· Determining ways unmarried partners should own property
· Strategies to ensure that your wishes will be carried out under all circumstances
· The importance of partnership agreements and other legal documents for unmarried couplesAuthors and Certified Financial Planners™ Sheryl Garrett and Debra A. Neiman guide you and your partner through the necessary steps to protect each other from potential financial ruin in much the same way that federal laws help protect married couples. If you are one half of an unmarried couple, you owe it to you and your partner's financial future to read Money Without Matrimony.

About the Author:
Sheryl Garrett, CFP® is a nationally recognized financial planner, founder of The Garrett Planning Network, Inc. and in 2003 and 2004 named one of the Top 25 Most Influential People in Financial Planning by Investment Advisor magazine. A practicing financial planner since 1986, an expert witness and a successful author and columnist, Garrett has been interviewed by CNNfn, Bloomberg Personal Finance, NPR’s All Things Considered, Financial Planning, Forbes, Investor’s Business Daily, Kiplinger Personal Finance, Money, Newsweek, Smart Money, Time, U.S. News and World Report and the Wall Street Journal.

Debra A. Neiman, CFP®, MBA, is a financial planner specializing in investment, retirement, and tax-planning needs of unmarried couples and families. She is a frequent lecturer on Financial Planning for Unmarried Couples and was recently appointed Assistant Professor of Financial Planning at Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts. Neiman is a founding member of PridePlanners Association, an organization of financial planners serving the gay and lesbian community. She has appeared on the Dolan's Unscripted television show and National Public Radio's Marketplace, and has been featured in numerous publications including Business Week, The Advocate and Kiplinger's Personal Finance.

From Publishers Weekly:
Unmarried couples account for more than 5.5 million households in the U.S., but most of them never take the time to plan for a secure financial future. Yet planning is especially important for these couples since, despite their rising number, they still haven't achieved the financial benefits afforded to those who choose to marry, such as health insurance and Social Security survivor benefits. Designed for both heterosexual and same-sex couples, this informative guide to financial planning stresses the importance of discussing individual and joint financial goals with your partner, regardless of how casual or permanent the relationship is. Garrett and Neiman explore a wide range of issues, including how to hammer out a co-parenting agreement and how to decide whether to share a bank account. The authors also encourage couples to start saving more money: "Less than 1 percent of all Americans will be able to retire at age 65 and maintain their same standard of living." Financial planning is often a tense and difficult topic for couples to discuss but, with its real life examples, tidy bulleted lists and a glossary of confusing terms, this book should help readers get the conversation started.
