About the Author:
Alan Mitchell espouses the market-based, Austrian School of economics. He lived under European socialism for two years, and later, as part of a National Academy of Sciences contingent, he visited parts of the former Soviet Union to observe the economics of agriculture in transition. He has worked in the private sector, for state and federal agencies, and taught and conducted research at several universities. His numerous scientific journal articles were concerned with theoretical and practical agro-environmental agricultural practices. He is the author of an award-winning novel, Angel of the Danube. He currently runs a ranch in the western desert, where he and his wife have been named 2008 Ranchers of the Year by the Society for Range Management.
