A Fenced Yard - Softcover

A Fenced Yard was published for two reasons. First, it’s a story that will initiate a serious discussion between women who are struggling with the conflicting demands of family and career and between teens who are entering sexual relationships without realizing the consequences. And secondly, there is a need for more entertaining works that contain positive messages for the benefit of society. “A Fenced Yard” contains no explicit sex, violence or derogatory language.

“A Fenced Yard” started as a gift for my children, especially my daughter. I wanted a unique way to share some very important lessons about life that would create a lasting mental and emotional image. Although the story is fiction, it parallels certain events in my life that taught me some valuable lessons. I wanted to share these lessons with my daughter, who needs to understand the consequences of hasty decisions and the different types of love. My maternal grandmother died when my mother was eighteen. I wanted to make sure I had the opportunity to teach my daughter, even if I wasn’t physically with her.

At the same time, I want to share with African-American mothers a wonderful secret that I recently learned. After finally deciding to put my family first, I started reading the Bible. This was something I always intended to do but never had time. The more I read, the more I realized how mislead I had been. Living our lives according to God’s plan is the key to peace, happiness and fulfillment. Isn’t it ironic that the one thing we pursue most has an important message that we ignore – In God we trust? These words are printed on all U.S. currency.
