Grade 2-5-- In this fourth book about those who shaped the character of our country, Quackenbush continues to write with great verve and vivacity. Highly readable, with an emphasis on the Madisons' contributions, the book introduces the lives of two people who are sometimes overshadowed by the greatness of others in those first turbulent years of our new nation. At the bottom of each narrative page is an illustration of modern children acting out a debate between Madison and Patrick Henry. These vignettes are appealing and add comic relief. The author/illustrator is widely applauded for his illustrations, and these will only add to his reputation. Highly energized reading for today's young historians. --Pamela K.
