From Library Journal:
Similar in format to earlier sets in the Great Events from History II series (LJ 1/93; LJ 1/94), this book consists of five attractive volumes containing 374 signed, chronologically arranged articles, each about 2500 words long. These articles clearly and objectively describe major events in business and commerce from 1897, when the Dow Jones index first appeared, to 1994, when NAFTA became effective. Each entry includes an essay summarizing the event and its impact, an annotated bibliography, and cross references to related articles. Over 125 scholars contributed to the set, which, while international in scope, focuses on U.S. events. Every volume has a chronological list of events, but Volume 5 also has indexes for the set arranged alphabetically by title, by subject/keyword, by category, geographically, and by personal name. Although Richard Robinson's United States Business History, 1602-1988: A Chronology (Greenwood Pr., 1990) and Business History of the World: A Chronology (Greenwood Pr., 1993) lists many more events, this dependable Magill set will be most appealing to users of public, school, and academic libraries.
