This manual serves as the student workbook for the Viewpoints group training program. It presents a 10-lesson curriculum designed to teach social problem-solving skills, increase impulse control, promote empathy, and develop prosocial attitudes in adolescents. The program covers topics such as peer pressure, drugs and alcohol, stress, fairness, and prejudice. Lessons involve reading, writing, and group discussion. Each lesson poses real-life problem situations that are interesting, relevant, and highly thought provoking. The program has been field-tested over a period of 15 years in schools and juvenile correctional facilities. It has been shown to significantly reduce students' aggression and antisocial behavior.

Review:
The Viewpoints curriculum and the teacher's guide are excellent and practical resources for teaching social problem solving. The student workbook uses language that should be easily understood by adolescents. It contains clear definitions of concepts, provides engaging examples, and allows the students to work on various interpersonal problems --Denis G. Sukhodolsky, Journal of Cognitive Psychotherapy

The compact, straightforward, and rather scientific style of the authors' writing fits the program's design and supports its positive messages of self-responsibility. . . It is respectful and direct, yet does not come across as heavy handed or moralizing --Alison H. Johnson, Social Work with Groups

"This program could be incorporated into any special or general education curriculum. In addition, it would be an excellent focus for a special counseling group." --Intervention in School and Clinic
