Grade 4-7Part of a series that introduces family life around the world, A Family in Mexico follows nine-year-old Paula Maria Fosado of Oaxaca and A Kibbutz in Israel focuses on ten-year-old Tal Niv, who lives in southern Israel. Each book is beautifully illustrated with full- color photographs on every page, and contains maps and an illustrated fact page. A Family in Mexico also includes a pronunciation guide to the Spanish works used in the text. Some sloppy writing mars both books. These books will not be useful for reports because of the lack of an index, a table of contents, and chapters with headings. A Family in Mexico is further limited because of its focus on one child in a well-to-do family. Other short, easy-to-read books about countries such as Epstein's Mex ico (Watts, 1983) and Kubie's Israel (Watts, 1978; o.p.), offer more informa tion but are not as child-centered as these volumes.Andrea Antico, Auro ra Hills Middle School, Colo.
