The Goblin Baby: Adapted from a Story by Andrew Lang - Hardcover

I loved working on this book, but first I need to mention that I wrote the book, not Andrew Lang, though I'm flattered that someone thought he wrote it.  When I wrote the book I had a garden and a daughter who helped me in the garden. I originally had Amanda barefoot in the garden, but the editor did not want her barefoot, even though I assured her that my daughter worked barefoot in our garden.    As a child I had a large rabbit also.  I actually had two rabbits, Harry and Thumper, but I soon discovered a nest of babies and had to change Harry's name to Harriet and give Thumper a new home on our porch.    I always loved playing with trolls and I did have a pesky little brother... whom I dedicated the book to.    I was very much influenced by the artist, Sulamith Wulfing, for the illustrations in this book, whom I've felt a great connection to.

LAUREN MILLS is the recipient of the 1996 Golden Kite Award for Illustration, together with her husband, Dennis Nolan, for their book Fairy Wings.
She also explored the world of faeries in her illustrations for Elfabet by Jane Yolen and a book she both wrote and illustrated, Tatterhood and the Hobgoblins, winner of the New England Book Design Award.

Ms. Mills is also the author-illustrator of The Rag Coat, praised by School Library Journal in a starred review for its "lovely paintings, lyrical writing, (and) heartwarming message." The book garnered numerous honors, including New York state's Charlotte Award and was performed as a ballet at the University of Utah.

Ms. Mills received a B.A. in Drawing and Painting at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a M.A. in Book Illustration at San Jose State University.

Her artwork has been exhibited at Radcliffe College, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, and galleries and museums throughout the country.

She lives in a converted barn in Massachusetts with her husband, daughter, and a host of visiting animals, including toads, bats, mice, a bear, chickadees, and chipmunks, some of which appear in this book.
