A Mouse in My House - Softcover

PreSchool-Grade 1-- A small boy compares his own activities to a variety of animals, including an angry bug, a clumsy lion, a greedy pig, and the mouse of the title. The game is a familiar one to most children, and this little boy certainly plays it with gusto. More of an illustrated verse than a story, the text's rollicking rhythm, rhyme, and repetition will encourage young listeners to join in. Busy, slightly offbeat watercolors expand on the lively, childlike humor. Each two-page spread contains two illustrations: a framed picture of the imaginary animal wreaking havoc in the house, and a more open, unframed picture of the boy engaged in the same activity. The artwork has some of the naive perspectives of a child's drawings, a style that perfectly suits the first-person narrative. Large groups will have trouble seeing the smaller details, but the story is well suited for smaller groups and one-on-one read-aloud sessions.
