From School Library Journal:
Grade 6 Up-Interweaving comments from individual girls and women with descriptive information, Berg covers this topic chronologically. She begins with 18th- and 19th-century society then continues on through the struggle for suffrage, the war effort during World War II, the postwar push toward suburban domesticity, the civil rights movement, and the "second wave of American feminism" (the 1970s). The author looks at the antifeminist backlash and educational inequalities, and concludes with the thought that today's young women will be the driving force behind a "third wave" of feminism. The space devoted to any single topic is minimal, and there is little background information or discussion of philosophical concepts. However, the inclusion of notes will allow motivated readers to delve more deeply. Berg's straightforward writing style makes the material accessible and interesting. Throughout, she interjects the experiences, ideas, and comments of modern young women. An adequate introduction to a complex topic.
