Georgia Parish never regretted leaving Nulgarra, Far Northern Queensland, to pursue her career. She didn't miss the oppressive heat, the wet, the bugs, the deadly wilderness. But after a plane crash she finds herself back there, struggling to comprehend a sinister fact - the plane was sabotaged. Was it someone hoping to kill Ronnie Chen, the man who never turned up to take the flight? Or is it to do with the two other passengers, unfriendly but heroic Lee Denham, and his frightened companion, Suzy? After all, nobody could have a reason to want Georgia dead...Georgia's search for the truth plunges her into a harsh and unforgiving landscape, across oceans and into crocodile-infested swamps. There, unable to trust anyone, she discovers that more than just her own life is at stake. Evocative, violent and shocking, DEAD HEAT is a fast and terrifying journey into the heart of one of the wildest places on earth.

About the Author:
Caroline Carver was born in the UK. At 22 she went to Australia for a holiday and stayed for 10 years, working in publishing and travelling. In 1992 she took part in the London to Saigon Car Rally, where she and her co-driver were the only all-female crew on a 63-day, 12,500 mile journey. In 1993, she fell into freelance writing and since then has worked locally while writing and travelling. In 1998, she completed the London to Cape Town Car Rally, once again the only all-female crew. She blames her love of adventure on her parents: her mother set the land speed record in Australia and her father was a jet fighter pilot.
Review:
'It's one terrifying ordeal after another for the poor girl, right up to the end of this racy and enjoyable read.' -- Susanna Yager SUNDAY TELEGRAPH 'I know you don't read Australian thrillers. Well, bury that prejudice. This is probably the most consistently exciting thriller I've read this year - and by 'consistently' I mean start-to-finish, chapter-by-chapter, don't let-up thrills and excitement... I loved every minute of it.' -- Russell James CRIME TIME 'Plane crashes, car chases, crocodile-infested swamps: this book has it all. A ripping yarn with a conscience. It's great stuff!' GOOD BOOK GUIDE 'Quite the adventuress herself, Caroline Carver writes novels with non-stop action. Poor Georgia! The troubles Caroline invents for her you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy... the action scenes are great. Enjoy. 1/2' -- George Easter DEADLY PLEASURES 'The local colour is strong: landscapes, habitations, sweaty heat , scorching winds, poisonous wildlife vivdly described. The crocodiles are terrifying... Anyone who likes reading breakneck, this is the book for you.' SHERLOCK 'Caroline Carver is a British writer who has already wowed us with her dazzling debut Blood Junction. Now she has followed it with the equally tense page-turner Dead Heat ... Fast-paced and slick, Dead Heat should firmly establish Caroline Carver as a thriller queen. If you want a read to consume you, this is the one to pick, but don't be surprised if you have no nails left by the final pages. ' -- PETERBOROUGH EVENING TELEGRAPH 'Carver's action runs at an excellent pace and she creates a dense atmospheric setting amongst the mangrove groves... Dead Heat makes for tense reading.' -- CITY LIFE (EVERYTHING MANCHESTER) 'The best book I have read this year. Atmospheric, gripping, thrilling, compelling. Read it.' -- Lizzie Hayes MYSTERY WOMEN '[A] gripping thriller' -- DORSET ECHO
