From School Library Journal:
Kindergarten-Grade 2-- Benjamin the hamster, star of Benjamin's Portrait (Lothrop, 1987), returns for another adventure in this entertaining offering. Blowing up balloons makes Benjamin nervous, and with good reason. When fully inflated, the balloon rises, taking him up with it and drifting into a snowstorm. After a crash landing, Benjamin builds a snow plane to take him home. Unfortunately, the plane crashes too, and the impetus of the landing turns the hapless animal into a runaway snowball. After one final crash, Benjamin discovers the best use of all for snow--building snow sculptures of hamsters. The illustrations greatly enhance the text, with Benjamin realistically drawn against a plain lavender background. This quizzical little animal is sure to delight young readers. Even when one sees only his feet encased in a snowball, the comic character of the furry creature is unmistakable. This amusing flight of fancy will be welcome in most libraries, but especially where Benjamin's other adventures are popular. --Lori A. Janick, Parkwood Elementary School, Pasadena,
