Lizzie and Harold - Hardcover

PreSchool-Grade 2 Lizzie and Harold are destined to be friends, and everyone but Lizzie can see this. Although her mother warns Lizzie, "You don't really get a best friend. . .they just happen if you wait," Lizzie can't wait. Harold offers to be her best friend, but Lizzie refuses because he is a boy. She then actively tries to recruit by imitation and advertising, still with no luck. But, when Lizzie finds Harold trying to buy a friend with candy, she is upset. Then a walk and a talk together leads to an understanding between new best friends. A beautifully handled story blended with soft, colorful watercolors makes this an ideal book for story hours and picture book collections. Winthrop has shown her ability before at capturing the true feelings of children and does just as well in this story, in a slightly shorter form, without compromising quality or age appeal.
