From School Library Journal:
Grade 1-6-- This survey of 16 baby animals found in two American zoos boasts exceptionally well-composed full-color photographs opposite paragraphs of text that describe each animal's habitat, eating habits, and growth patterns. A map accompanies each entry, as well as a pronunciation guide for such species as Bactrian camel, New South Wales wallaroo, and Bawean deer. McMillan also indicates whether each species is threatened, endangered, or survives only in captivity. The usefulness of the book is further enhanced by a chart that lists most of the common names for animal young and a clearly reasoned discussion of the mission of modern zoos. The book will appeal to a wide range of ages: younger children will enjoy the eye-catching photos and the very large labels; older readers will appreciate the many details included. One spelling error--a joey ``peaks out from its mother's pouch''--mars an otherwise excellent and novel presentation. --Ellen Fader, Westport Public Library, CT

From Kirkus Reviews:
Appealing color photos of 17 rare and unusual zoo babies are presented here, including the European mouflon, Bawean deer, and fishing cat as well as the more familiar giraffe and zebra. For each, the author gives the scientific name, a map indicating range, brief facts (plus endangered status), and the correct name for the baby: kit, pup, fawn, kid, joey, etc. Guides also provide the names for many other animal babies, the names for adult males and females, and the collective noun for each animal. Young children will enjoy the outstanding photos; older ones will also be intrigued by the brief facts. (Nonfiction. 5-10) -- Copyright ©1992, Kirkus Associates, LP. All rights reserved.
