Bathosphere.*
*"Dirk?" The message played to an empty room. "Are you there, Dirk? Ylon
calling from the Revenant. And blast. We really hoped to say goodbye to you

and the following message appeared on the screen.*

twelve-hundred hours, Mars proclaimed its independence from the Earth's
Planetary Alliance. We must now consider ourselves in a state of war, and
an emergency session of the council has been called at 17:00 hours to
discuss Earth's response to the Martian proclamation."*
*The program Dirk had written, that logged him onto the system periodically
and downloaded his messages so people would think he was in the facility,
kicked in and dumped both the Lilliput's plaintive plea and directive into
the bin. *
