This elementary algebra text was developed in the spirit of the AMATYC standards for problem solving, modeling, connecting with other disciplines, technology, and calculus reform. Many traditional topics are included in the text, but the development and application of these topics is not traditional. This book takes a "less is best" approach and allows students to take an active role in the learning process through collaborative techniques, hands-on activities, and use of the graphing calculator as a problem-solving tool. Geometric examples and problems are integrated throughout the text. Students explore topics through various activities and use Calculator Based Laboratory (CBL) experiments to generate data describing real-world situations and applications.
